General Motors has revealed the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt, making good on a promise to revive its most affordable electric car after discontinuing it two years ago.
GM sent current Bolt owners an email announcing the model, which PCMag reviewed. Select owners also attended a launch event last night, where they saw the new model firsthand.

The 2027 Chevy Bolt will be available in January 2026, which is a bit early for a 2027 model, but happy news for fans of the brand. The LT trim starts at $28,595, making it the most affordable EV in the US, slightly below the 2026 Nissan Leaf, which starts at $29,990. A sporty new Bolt RS trim starts at $31,600.
"For the first time ever, Bolt gets the RS treatment with sporty, street-inspired looks, featuring a unique grille, Black wheels, Gloss Black roof rails and more," GM says.

However, shoppers will want to test-drive both the 2027 Bolt and the Nissan Leaf, especially since Nissan has completely redesigned the Leaf to have a similar, SUV-like silhouette to the Bolt. (Chevy seems to have dropped the smaller version of the Bolt, and the new model is only available in what was formerly known as the larger "EUV" version.)
The estimated range is 255 miles, a slight increase from the previous Bolt EUV's 247-mile range. The car has a different battery than its predecessor, with a distinct set of minerals inside. These batteries, known as lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) packs, can achieve high range numbers for a low cost to manufacturers. But they have some drawbacks, such as draining faster in cold weather or when towing.
Other tech-focused updates include available wireless charging and a slightly larger, 11.3-inch center touch screen powered by Google built-in software.

On the bright side, LFP batteries charge well. GM says the new Bolt has "more than 2.5x faster charging with 150kW+ public DC fast charging," according to the email. It powers up from 10-80% in just 26 minutes, according to a social media post from someone who attended the Hollywood event. That's about as fast as it can get for an affordable model these days. It also features a built-in Tesla NACS port, allowing it to charge at Superchargers without an adapter.
Chevy kept the same Bolt EUV exterior for the new model—probably an easy way to keep costs down. But it comes in four new exterior colors: Habanero Orange, Relic Green Metallic (LT only), and Atomic Yellow (RS only).
