Automotive technology company Rivian opened three fast-charging EV sites in California and Colorado this week.

Part of a planned nationwide "Adventure Network," the electric vehicle chargers currently provide more than 200kW of power, allowing Rivian R1T drivers (and eventually R1S SUV owners) to add 140 miles of range in 20 minutes.

The first station launched Monday in Salida, Colo., with four Level 3 DC chargers (including a pull-through option for vehicles towing trailers), as well as four Level 2 Waypoint chargers, open to any EV (not just Rivian-branded) through the company's mobile app.

The second and third Adventure Network sites open to the public today on Wednesday in Inyokern and Bishop, Calif., which serve popular sites like Yosemite and Death Valley national parks, Sequoia National Forest, and Mammoth Lakes.

"We designed Rivian charging to support electrified adventure, and these first sites demonstrate how we're enabling drivers to responsibly reach some of the nation's most breathtaking natural spaces," Trent Warnke, Rivian senior director of energy and charging solutions, said in a statement. "In addition to scenic or off-the-beaten-path destinations, our fast charging rollout is designed to ensure travelers have places to charge along major transportation corridors coast to coast."

Rivian will continue opening Adventure Network sites across North America, with an initial goal of 3,500 fast chargers across 600 locations. Taking additional steps toward net-zero carbon emissions, the company promised to match charging with 100% renewable energy on an annual basis, and plans to launch various renewable projects around the country.
