Tesla has introduced a subscription offering that allows its customers to use its Full Self-Driving (FSD) autonomous driving software in supported vehicles in exchange for $199 per month.

Electrek reported that Tesla customers who purchased the Enhanced Autopilot package—which the company no longer offers—will be able to subscribe to FSD for $99 per month instead.

FSD was previously only available as a separate purchase that cost $5,000 at launch before the most recent price increase brought it to $10,000 in October 2020. That one-time purchase is still an option, but now Tesla customers will also be able to access it with a lower up-front cost.

The ninth beta of FSD was originally expected to debut in August 2018; it was finally released on July 10. The update introduced a variety of improvements, such as updated driving visualizations and a cabin camera dedicated to making sure the vehicle's driver remains focused on the road.

This version of the software still isn't truly self-driving, however, and Tesla said in an FAQ that its vehicles "require active driver supervision and are not autonomous" even with FSD enabled.
