Evans Hankey, Apple's VP of Industrial Design, is set to leave the company by April next year.

As Bloomberg reports, Hankey's decision to leave was announced internally at Apple this week. She took over the role when Jony Ive left the company back in 2019 and has therefore overseen the hardware design of Apple's products as it transitioned away from Intel and AMD to its own M-branded chips.

In a statement an Apple spokesman said:

"Apple’s design team brings together expert creatives from around the world and across many disciplines to imagine products that are undeniably Apple. The senior design team has strong leaders with decades of experience. Evans plans to stay on as we work through the transition, and we’d like to thank her for her leadership and contributions"

Apple is of course left with the problem of who will replace Hankey? As 9To5Google suggests, designer Richard Howarth could be a front runner as he held the VP of Industrial Design role between 2015-17 when Ive became Chief Design Officer.

With Hankey remaining at Apple for another six months we're unlikely to find out where she is going next. However, after holding such a high-profile position within Apple, it's unlikely she's been short of offers.
