Your iPhone is on the fritz. Maybe the screen is cracked. Maybe the battery is on its last legs. Maybe the phone is waterlogged. Or maybe your iPhone just isn't feeling well. Whatever the problem, you can tap into Apple to diagnose and repair your phone. Or you can give Staples a shot.

Yep, if you're not near an Apple Store or don't want to deal with the Genius Bar, the retail chain offers a repair service for iPhones as well as iPads and Android phones.

For your iPhone, Staples can replace the battery, fix cracked screens, and attempt to recover devices affected by water. If a Staples store is not near you, select Staples stores can send a technician to meet you at your home, office, or other location to check out your phone.

What will you pay for a Staples repair? That depends on the problem.

The cost to replace the battery on certain model iPhones starts at $29. Screen repairs range from $90 to $180. If your phone has been in contact with water, select Staples stores have TekDry machines to dry the phone in around 30 minutes. Staples advises you to try to get your phone to a store with a TekDry machine within the first 48 hours of water contact. The cost for this dry repair service ranges from $40 to $100, with the average price around $70. Staples charges you for the TekDry service only if it successfully revives your water-damaged phone. All repairs are backed by a one-year warranty on parts.

And how long will it take? In-store repairs are typically performed the same day. If Staples needs to send out your phone for more extensive repairs, you'll wait anywhere from 7 to 10 days.

Find a Store

To start, open the Staples Phone Repair webpage on your browser. Click on any button that says: Find a Store.

Select Location

Next, select your state and city in the appropriate fields and click on Search to find nearby Staples stores. Here, you can also read the FAQ to learn more about the phone repair service.

Call First

If a store is accessible, you can take your malfunctioning iPhone there and ask the staff to diagnose and hopefully resolve the problem.

Before you take a trip, however, you may want to first call the store to see if someone can diagnose and fix your specific issue. For example, if your phone is water-damaged, call your local store to make sure it has a TekDry machine to dry the phone. If you can't get to the store, call it to find out if it can send someone to meet you at your home or elsewhere.

My Experience

I've been working for PCMag since early 2016 writing tutorials, how-to pieces, and other articles on consumer technology. Beyond PCMag, I've written news stories and tutorials for a variety of other websites and publications, including CNET, ZDNet, TechRepublic, Macworld, PC World, Time, US News & World Report, and AARP Magazine. I spent seven years writing breaking news for CNET as one of the site’s East Coast reporters. I've also written two books for Wiley & Sons—Windows 8: Five Minutes at a Time and Teach Yourself Visually LinkedIn.

My Areas of Expertise

I've used Windows, Office, and other Microsoft products for years so I'm well versed in that world. I also know the Mac quite well. I'm always working with iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and Android on my various mobile devices. And these days, I write a lot about AI, so that's become another key area for me.

The Tech I Use

My wife always jokes about all the tech products we have around the house, but I manage to put them to good use for my articles. I like Lenovo computers, so I own a couple of Lenovo desktops and several laptops. I have three MacBooks and a Mac mini. For my mobile life and work, I use an iPhone 16 Pro, iPad Pro, and iPad mini as well as an Apple Watch. But since I write about Android, I own several Android phones and tablets. Like any tech person, I have a cabinet full of cables, wires, and assorted mysterious gadgets. And when it's time to take a break from writing, I have an old Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, both of which I use for exercise and fitness games.
