WISeID Personal Data Protector V2.3 Specs

Type: Personal

Editor's Note: Product not yet tested. The following description is from the manufacturer.

WISeKey's free ad-supported WISeID Personal Data Protector V2.3 app helps iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users protect the personally identifiable information on their devices. It offers secure storage for important data that would otherwise be accessible to anyone finding or stealing the phone. New in this version, it "integrates with FaceBook Connect to give users full control of their profile".

Users define a master password to protect all data secured within WISeID. Internally the data is encrypted using "military grade encryption". Users can store data in categories including Web sites, e-mail credentials, social networking accounts, bank accounts, credit card details, and more.

Most of the categories come pre-loaded with suggested items. For example, the Web site category lists many travel and shopping sites, the bank account category includes dozens of banks, and the frequent flyer category lists airlines. The user only has to fill in specific personal information to make use of these. Of course it's possible to enter fully user-defined data as well.

WISeID is not a full password manager like LastPass 1.72 (Free, 5 stars) or RoboForm Everywhere 7 ($19.95 direct, 4.5 stars). However, if you have entered login credentials for a web site you can launch that site and log in automatically from within WISeID.

The Things category deserves special mention. Users interested in protecting their belongings can snap photos from within the app, record serial numbers, enter warranty information, and otherwise create a record of ownership.

Geo-location is new in this edition, and will become more important as WISeKey adds support for services such as FourSquare. All users of WISeID can request a free digital certificate from WISeKEY to support "cloud services coming in a future version". WISeKey reports that "WISeID previously hit the top 5 iPhone apps in its category in the USA and is among the top utility apps worldwide". WISeID is currently available for free in the iTunes App Store.
