Many of us have mounted flat-screen TVs on our walls or over fireplaces, a process that often requires strong screws, holes in walls, and a silent prayer that the pricey set will not come crashing down in the middle of the latest Game of Thrones episode.
LG today showed off a more portable and lightweight solution: a 55-inch OLED panel that attaches and detaches from a wall like a magnet on a fridge.
As reported by Yonhap news agency, LG showed off the display during a Tuesday event in Seoul. It's only 0.97mm thick, compared to 4.3mm on its existing 55-inch OLED HDTV, and sticks to walls via a magnetic mat.
Release details were not announced; the event was largely intended to showcase the future tech that LG has in the works.
According to the Daily Mail, LG said OLED in general will be a big focus for the company, with plans for a 99-inch set this year.
Last year, LG unveiled two 18-inch OLED panels — one that's rollable and another that's transparent. According to LG, the 1,200-by-810 flexible OLED panel can be rolled up to a radius of 3 centimeters without affecting the function of the display.
The company has also dabbled in flexible displays with its G Flex line of smartphones; the second-gen version of that device arrived earlier this year.
