There’s something about a Lego set that brings out the tinkerer in everyone, no matter their age. The natural way that the bricks click together and start forming structures generates ideas. For some, that's Lego Ideas, capitalized.

Lego Ideas is a crowdsourcing site where Lego enthusiasts can post their set suggestions and others can vote on them. Sets that have 10,000 supporters get an official review by Lego and a board chooses which ones the company will produce.

The latest Lego Ideas set to become a reality is Voltron. It stands over a foot high and all five lions that comprise this mech are separately posable. At over 2,000 pieces, it's sure to keep you busy for weeks. But Voltron doesn't ship until next month so if you've got some spare time on your hands, go to the Lego Ideas site and vote on some of these other sets.

This article originally appeared on PCMag.com.

Aggretsuko

At about 15 minutes each, Aggretsuko episodes go by fast on Netflix. But that's about all the time you need to change Retsuko's mood each day with this set. The Retsuko figure, her desk, and the karaoke setup where she lets out her death-metal scream are the creation of Iain Heath, a builder-in-residence at The Brothers Brick, a site for adult fans of Lego.

Bob Ross

Nothing is more relaxing than watching Bob Ross painting his happy little clouds. Though Ross is no longer with us, you can stream his shows on Twitch and Netflix. If painting is not your thing, you can get creative by building a BrickHeadz-style homage complete with "iconic Bob Ross appearance," by which the creator can only mean the hair.

KITT

Self-driving cars are now real but they don't talk like KITT did. The faithful smart car was the companion to the less smart Michael Knight on Knight Rider. This Lego reproduction is driven largely by the nostalgia of its creator and even Lego Ideas, since it was a staff pick.

Megazord

Megazord might face a mighty battle getting made because it's so close to the Voltron project that's about to hit shelves but if you back it, you have the Lego staff on your side. It's been a staff pick because nostalgia dies hard. If you've been rewatching the series on Netflix, go vote because it's supportin' time.

Podcast Studio

You probably have a favorite podcast or two. If the hosts are lucky, they have access to a podcast studio as nice as this one. It transforms for different formats and has snacks for guests, a whiteboard for ideas, and even a dog.

SpaceX

You'd need plenty of space and time to finish this SpaceX kit. It's made up of over 1,500 bricks to construct the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets as well as the TEL (transporter/erector/launcher). The project has a lot of supporters but creator Matthew Nolan is looking for a boost from Elon Musk himself.

Typewriter

Go old-school with this typewriter. It's a solidly built piece of gadgetry that has a working hand-cranked mechanism. The attention to detail is because its creator Steve Guinness is the winner of the UK's Lego Masters TV show.

X-Treme X-Wing

Only in a galaxy far, far away where maybe time moves at a different speed would you think people would attempt to build a 5-million-piece X-Wing fighter. But for 32 builders from the Lego model shop in Kladno, Czech Republic, it was their job. And a pretty good one, too, we’d say.

Taj Mahal

Building the real Taj Mahal took 20,000 people, 1,000 elephants, precious materials from six countries, and over 20 years to complete. The Lego Taj Mahal takes slightly less time but is no small feat since it’s sold out, fetches an astoundingly high second-market price on eBay, and has nearly 6,000 pieces.

Block City

Detroit is rock city but it’s also brick city. Some of the city’s most famous buildings were replicated by Jim Garrett and exhibited in the National Model Railroad Association's 2007 National Train Show held in Detroit.

Senior Features Writer

My Experience

My title is Senior Features Writer, which is a license to write about absolutely anything if I can connect it to technology (I can). I’ve been at PCMag since 2011 and have covered the surveillance state, vaccination cards, ghost guns, voting, ISIS, art, fashion, film, design, gender bias, and more. You might have seen me on TV talking about these topics or heard me on your commute home on the radio or a podcast. Or maybe you’ve just seen my Bernie meme

I strive to explain topics that you might come across in the news but not fully understand, such as NFTs and meme stocks. I’ve had the pleasure of talking tech with Jeff Goldblum, Ang Lee, and other celebrities who have brought a different perspective to it. I put great care into writing gift guides and am always touched by the notes I get from people who’ve used them to choose presents that have been well-received. Though I love that I get to write about the tech industry every day, it’s touched by gender, racial, and socioeconomic inequality and I try to bring these topics to light.

Outside of PCMag, I write fiction, poetry, humor, and essays on culture.

My Areas of Expertise

  • Making incomprehensible tech news easy to understand
  • Expanding the boundaries of topics covered in the industry
  • Figuring out tips and tricks in apps and on devices and letting you know about them
  • Putting together gift guides for everyone in your life

The Technology I Use

All that gadgets is gold for me: my iPhone 11 Pro, my fifth-generation iPad that I use only for streaming videos and music, my iPad mini 4 that I like to take with me whenever I carry a bag that can fit it, and my MacBook Pro. Why are they all different shades of gold, though? What’s going on, Apple?

None of them quite live up to my two past loves: my LG Lotus LX600 phone and my Sony Walkman NW-E005 MP3 player.

I've never given up wired earbuds so I was ahead of all those trend pieces. I use a Mangotek Lightning-to-3.5mm headphone jack adapter to connect them to my phone.

I have had so many ebook readers, but I prefer paper to them all. Still, my Kindle Paperwhite is perfect for traveling or when I’m too impatient to wait for a book to be released in paperback.
