At $1,200, the Toshiba TLP-S30U is one of the best bargains in this group. One of the lightest projectors here, it weighs 4.8 pounds. The TLP-S30U's three LCD panels showed no convergence errors or pixel defects. Our tests of the images from this model resulted in average scores, showing good brightness and contrast, and uniform brightness. Video images looked quite good, with smooth facial tones.

We did find a few faults with the TLP-S30U, however. For example, the remote control does not support mouse functions; the buttons could be more intuitive; and the reasonably sharp image focus was slightly blurred at the top corners. Nonetheless, the TLP-S30U is a solid model that is worth adding to your short list of candidates.
