Bitdefender Antivirus Plus

Bitdefender Antivirus Plus has a brand new look, with a left-rail menu, a panel for recommendations, and a panel of quick actions where you can put your most-used features front and center.

On the Protection Features page, Bitdefender lists all the protection-related actions and settings available to you. Note that a few of them require an upgrade to Bitdefender's security suite.

The Privacy Features page puts all privacy-related actions and settings at your fingertips, though a few are not available in the basic antivirus.

Bitdefender quarantines found threats immediately and pops up a notification. You can click the notification to reach this page of event notifications. Here it has caught what Bitdefender calls a potentially malicious application.

In our malicious URL test, Bitdefender's web protection blocked almost every dangerous page, achieving the best overall score of any product in this test.

Here Bitdefender has caught a malware sample just before the download finished. As with other products, interrupting the download process can confuse the operating system, resulting in error messages.

Bitdefender includes a component that watches for exploits attacking vulnerabilities in the system and in popular applications. In testing, it detected about half the sample attacks, which included exploits aimed at Windows, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, and Java.

A zero-day ransomware attack could conceivably get past the main antivirus defenses. To ensure that such an attack can't damage your files, the Safe Files system denies any attempt at file modification by an unauthorized program.

The real-time antivirus system eliminated all our ransomware samples on sight. When we tried again with the main antivirus turned off, other layers of protection saved the day. Here we see a detection by Advanced Threat Defense.

In addition to capturing, storing, and replaying your passwords, Bitdefender Wallet also stores personal and credit card information, to help you when filling web forms.

When Bitdefender detects that you're visiting a financial website, it offers to open the site in the Safepay desktop, which includes a browser that's hardened against outside interference.

Your Bitdefender subscription gets you 200MB of VPN-protected traffic per day, per device. Upgrading to Premium removes the data cap and lets you choose to connect through any available country.

The Vulnerability Scan looks for missing security patches in Windows and in popular browsers and applications. It also flags Windows user accounts that have weak passwords.
