Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is in China, and after a quick smog jog, settled in for a discussion with Liu Yunshan, a senior Communist Party leader and China's censorship chief, according to China's state-run news agency Xinhua.

"Liu expressed hope that Facebook, which has advanced technology and governance mode, should work with Chinese Internet enterprises to enhance exchanges and share experience so as to make outcome of the Internet development better benefit the people of all countries," Xinhua said.

China currently bans Facebook, along with several other popular social networks, including Twitter and YouTube. The social networks it does allow are largely all China-based and heavily censored.

But China is a lucrative market, so many U.S.-based companies are trying to work with the country as best they can. For his part, Zuckerberg has learned Mandarin and visited China on several occasions.

In 2014, former propoganda chief Lu Wei visited the campuses of Facebook, Apple, and Amazon. Among the things he discussed with Zuckerberg was "The Governance of China," a book written by Lu. Zuckerberg told Lu that he purchased the book for his co-workers because "I wanted them to learn about socialism with Chinese characteristics," according to Reuters.

On his Facebook page, Zuckerberg said he is "in Beijing for the China Development Forum, where I'm meeting Chinese leaders from the public and private sectors," but did not elaborate.

Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
