The LG V20, expected to hit shelves next month, is set to be the first device featuring Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, the phone maker says.

The device cribs features from its predecessor, the V10 (pictured), like dual front-facing cameras and always-on second screen, but runs Google's latest OS.

"We are excited to offer the first phone in the world to feature Nougat out of the box," Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications division, said in a statement. "The LG V20 upgrades and extends its predecessor's cutting-edge multimedia features a step further, providing distinct mobile experience and sets a new standard for premium phones for consumers."

LG did not reveal any other specs; the V20 will begin shipping in the third quarter.

Typically, the first phone to run Google's latest OS is a Nexus device. But as LG points out, it has produced several Nexus devices for Google, including last year's Nexus 5X.

Developers have had their hands on Android N since March, a change for Google, which has traditionally released the next version of Android to developers at I/O. We did get more details about it at the conference, from notable security upgrades to details about Daydream, a new protocol for VR-ready Android phones and tablets.

The general public will likely get their hands on Android Nougat in the coming months; the Web giant did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
