Despite its classy design and fast CPU, the BlackBerry Bold 9930 for Verizon is essentially a middling attempt to keep RIM afloat ahead of its long-delayed QNX software platform.

BlackBerry Bold 9930 (Verizon Wireless): Front

The BlackBerry Bold 9930 measures 4.5 by 2.6 by 0.4 inches and weighs 4.6 ounces.

BlackBerry Bold 9930 (Verizon Wireless): Angle

The 9930 is slightly wider and thinner than earlier Bolds, which is a good thing, because it allows for a bigger screen: 2.8 inches, to be exact, with an ultra-sharp 640-by-480-pixel resolution.

BlackBerry Bold 9930 (Verizon Wireless): Right

The Bold 9930 is a true world phone; it's a dual-band EV-DO Rev A (800/1900 MHz), quad-band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), and dual-band HSDPA (900/2100 MHz) device, meaning it can hit 3G data speeds both here and overseas with the right data plan.

BlackBerry Bold 9930 (Verizon Wireless): Camera

The Bold 9930's 5-megapixel auto-focus camera sports a single LED flash and a 720p HD camcorder. Test photos were just average, with good detail and resolution, but muted colors and poor flash performance.

BlackBerry Bold 9930 (Verizon Wireless): Angle

The Bold 9930's backlit QWERTY keyboard is just fabulous. The keys still aren't separated like on a Curve. But they're even larger than before, and their well-tuned feel and response makes messaging about as close to a pleasure as it could be on a phone.

BlackBerry Bold 9930 (Verizon Wireless): Left

Microsoft Exchange Server sync is problematic on the Bold 9930 unless you have a BlackBerry Enterprise Server at your company.
