Hands-On With The BlackBerry Torch 9800

The new BlackBerry Torch for AT&T combines a 3.2", 480x360 touch screen and a full QWERTY keyboard.

The back of the BlackBerry Torch for AT&T is ridged and feels good under your fingers. There's a 5-megapixel camera on the back.

The volume and camera buttons are on the right side of the pleasantly slim BlackBerry Torch 9800.

The MicroUSB charging/syncing port is on the left side of the BlackBerry Torch.

The Torch uses BlackBerry 6, the new version of the BlackBerry OS. It looks a lot like previous BlackBerry OSes, but with new features and programs.

A full range of media apps now includes a podcast client and Web video search tool. You can swipe to the right or left to see different panes of the app menu.

The Torch includes universal search, which searches through program names, contacts, emails, media and help files to find what you're looking for.

You can dial the BlackBerry Torch using a touch-screen dialer or the QWERTY keyboard. There are two or three ways to do almost anything on this phone.

The Torch's keyboard is smaller, flatter, and more cramped than most other BlackBerry keyboards. It's still pretty nice, but it's no Curve,

Along with the QWERTY hard keyboard, you have two soft keyboards. The device doesn't have a "click-screen" like the Storm; this is a standard touch screen.

The new music player works with improved desktop software for a better music syncing experience.

The BlackBerry Torch comes with a podcasting client that uses RIM's own library of podcasts.

The image gallery app is brand new for BlackBerry 6.

The BlackBerry Torch plays videos in what looks like the same format as the existing BlackBerry Bold.

Videos look sharp and clear on the 3.2-inch, 360x480 screen.

Of course, the BlackBerry Torch has a touch-enabled version of BrickBreaker!

The new Web browser on the BlackBerry Torch didn't feel all that fast in our quick hands on, but it displayed Web pages very well.

RIM redid all their settings and setup screens in BlackBerry 6 to make them easier to use.
