The Clinton Foundation denies that its servers have been hacked by Guccifer 2.0.

"No evidence of a hack," Foundation president Donna E. Shalala tweeted today.

Earlier this week, the hacker known as Guccifer 2.0 said in a blog post that he "hacked the Clinton Foundation server and downloaded hundreds of thousands of docs and donors' databases."

There's reason to be suspicious, however. Guccifer has been linked to the Russian state, which was blamed for recent breaches of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).

As The Hill notes, the documents posted by Guccifer appear to actually be from the DCCC hack. "The Clinton Foundation discloses its donors, and many of the alleged donors published by Guccifer 2.0 do not appear to have given to the organization," it says.

Other oddities? Guccifer posted a screenshot of folders he said were on the Clinton Foundation servers. One of them is titled "Pay to Play," which seems to be a bit on the nose. Nick Confessore of the New York Times offered up this tidbit on that front:

Confessore also tweeted that the leak appears to be "mostly political contribution data available publicly."

The news comes as Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been teasing the release of documents that could affect the US election. He denies trying to directly impact Hillary Clinton's campaign, but Wikileaks is the one who posted the DNC documents just ahead of the Democratic National Convention. Assange has declined to say whether Russia gave the DNC docs to Wikileaks.

In his blog post, Guccifer 2.0 gave Assange and Wikileaks a special shout-out. "I'm pleased to congratulate Wikileaks on their 10th anniversary!!! Julian, you are really cool! Stay safe and sound!"
