The Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 is like a slightly bigger version of the excellent
Just like its sibling, the Galaxy Player 5.0 is essentially an Android smartphone with the phone removed. The innards of this device are almost the same as the 4-inch player: same processor, same apps, even the same screen resolution at 800-by-480. But the 5.0 uses a 5-inch screen and has more than double the battery capacity—2,500mAh compared to the 4.0's 1,200—which delivered more than 8 hours of video playback in our tests.
Like other 5-inch-screen devices, though, the Galaxy Player also becomes slightly unwieldy. At 3.1 by 5.6 by .5 inches and 6.4 ounces, it's just a little too large to hold comfortably in one hand, yet it doesn't offer the screen real estate of a seven-inch tablet. It's a tweener, and it's ergonomically stuck in the middle.
The Galaxy Player 5.0 retails for $269.99 with 8GB of storage (as compared with $229.99 for the 4.0); it supports MicroSD memory cards up to 32GB. For more details and a comparison with the Editor's Choice
