It's not just TVs that are getting bigger, monitors are too, and Acer turned up to CES with a huge new monitor aimed squarely at gamers. It's called the Predator Big Format Gaming Display, or Predator BFG for short, and it's 65 inches.
At a desk, it's unlikely you'd be able to view the entirety of this monitor without a lot of head movement. However, move a little further away and introduce a sofa and you potentially have the ultimate in gaming display for the living room. This 65-inch panel offers a 4K resolution with HDR support, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 1,000 nits peak luminance with local dimming for better blacks. Very smooth and tear-free gaming is also promised thanks to the inclusion of Nvidia G-Sync.
Another reason to consider the Predator as a living room rather than desk monitor is the fact Acer built-in Nvidia Shield hardware. That means you can stream movies and TV without need of a separate streaming box and use the included Shield controller for gaming. I also assume this opens up access to Android games.
Even though a remote and Shield controller are included, you don't actually need them to interact with the display. Acer also decided to incorporate Google Assistant so that the Predator can double as voice-activated smart home controller.
As HotHardware reports, Acer isn't sharing details about the Predator BFG pricing or a release date. As there's nothing really novel inside this gaming monitor I doubt we'll be waiting long before it appears for sale. As for pricing, most 4K 65-inch TVs fall into the $1,000-$1,600 range, so we shouldn't expect the Predator BFG to be any cheaper than that. If anything, the inclusion of G-Sync and Shield components will take the price higher.
Acer already uses the Predator brand for smaller G-Sync gaming monitors, but the Predator BFG looks like a clear play to replace your TV. If you game on an Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, it's certainly a tempting offer, especially as it boasts support for HDR.
