Google has hired a Netflix top content chief, potentially assisting Google's efforts in attracting more Hollywood content.

According to the AllThingsD blog, Google has hired Robert Kyncl, formerly the vice president of digital content at Netflix. Google hasn't confirmed the move, and Kyncl hasn't yet updated his LinkedIn page.

When asked via email if Kyncl had left the company for Google, Steve Swasey, a Netflix vice president of corporate communications, responded: "Yes".

If true, the addition would give Google some badly needed content relationships with Hollywood, whose relationship with Google has been reportedly strained since the days of YouTube, when pirated clips of copyrighted material made their way onto Google's servers. Today, YouTube's movie page looks like the back aisles of a local video store, with Look Who's Talking Too and Krull featured under the "new releases". Many of the movies are actually provided free from Crackle.com, with embedded ads.

By contrast, Netflix lists Iron Man, G.I. Joe, and Star Trek among the hits available for "Watch Instantly" streaming.
