Apple Releasing iPad in China Sept. 17

Apple's iPad tablet will be released in China on Sept. 17, Apple announced Monday.

Only the Wi-Fi version of the iPad will be available; Apple also sells a 3G plus Wi-Fi iPad. The device will go on sale at Apple retail stores and Apple re-sellers starting at 10 a.m. local time. Apple has two retail stores in the country - one at Sanlitun in the Chaoyang District of Beijing and another in the Pudong District of Shanghai.

The 16G-byte version will sell for about $589, while the 32GB will go for about $708, and the 64GB will retail for approximately $826. Similar versions in the U.S. sell for $499, $599, and $699, respectively.

Apple said it will offer free, personal setup service to customers who purchase an iPad at its retail stores, which will help them set up e-mail, load apps, and more. Chinese Apple retail stores will also host iPad workshops for customers to learn more about the tablet.

Apple said it will roll the iPad out in "many more countries" later this year, but has not yet made any specific announcements.
