Hewlett-Packard confirmed its tablet plans in a conference call on Thursday.

From a product standpoint, company executives said that a "Microsoft product" would appear in the "near future," with a "WebOS product in early 2011." That appears to confirm both reports of HP's Windows tablet as well as the company's plans to feature WebOS after HP purchased Palm.

HP reported net earnings of $1.8 billion, versus 1.7 billion a year ago; the company reported $30.7 billion in revenue, up 11 percent from the same period a year ago.

While rival Dell reported a loss in its consumer PC business, HP reported a 17 percent increase in PC revenue to $9.9 billion, with a 12 percent increase in unit shipments. Notebook revenue for the quarter was up 10 percent, while desktop revenue increased 27 percent, HP said. Commercial client revenue was up 25 percent, while consumer client revenue increased 12 percent.

HP's printer group also showed growth, with revenue increasing by 9% to $6.2 billion. Unit shipments increased 16 percent, with commercial printer hardware units up 44 percent - 28 percent in revenue - and consumer printer hardware units increased 9 percent, or 4 percent in revenue.
