Lenovo has confirmed that the company is developing an Android tablet, dubbed the "LePad," according to a report.

Reuters confirmed Wednesday with Lenovo that the tablet is under development, although there is no launch date. The "LePad" label is also an internal code name.

"We want the tablet PC to be compatible with our LePhone smartphone, which is why we're using Android," a Lenovo representative told Reuters.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is pushing for Windows 7 to be used on its tablet PCs. At the CES show in January, the company demonstrated the Slate, a Windows-based tablet. In April, the prices for the Slate even leaked out.

Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer claimed that a number of OEMs are developing Windows-based tablets, including HP, which on Wednesday was discovered to have placed a Windows-based HP Slate 500 as a product listing on its Web site. HP also reportedly "tabled" its own Android tablet.
