Twitter continued to expand its recently released advertising platform Wednesday with an "early bird" feed that will promote deals from selected advertisers.

Earlybird, which will be available like any other Twitter feed at twitter.com/earlybird, will highlight "special time-bound deals, sneak-peeks, and events," the micro-blogging site said in an announcement.

"We partner with select advertisers and re-tweet offers that they have crafted only for the Twitter community," Twitter said. "Our advertising partners determine the terms of the offer, including availability, amount, and price."

The company did not elaborate on what type of deals it might promote or whether any of those might be tech-related, except to say that initial partners will be "large, international brands or [those] focused on the U.S. market." As of Wednesday morning, Twitter had yet to post any deals.

When Twitter first announced its Promoted Tweets ad platform in April, initial partners included Best Buy, Bravo, Red Bull, Sony Pictures, Starbucks, and Virgin America. Since the launch of Promoted Trends last month, partners have also included Disney Pixar, the National Basketball Association, and Universal Pictures, among others.

Twitter started @earlybird because many users use the site to find timely, relevant information. "We believe that surfacing deals through the @earlybird account will help you discover the best of those deals, as well as find and follow accounts that consistently provide exceptional value," the company said.

Deals will be time sensitive and will continue while supplies last, so keep your eye on the @earlybird feed to take advantage of any offers.

Twitter acknowledged that it will "earn revenue through our relationships with advertisers," and will "focus will be to try and make these deals interesting and of value to you."

As @earlybird expands, Twitter said it will consider adding more localized deals or deals in particular categories, like fashion or music.

The company said it will only display @earlybird tweets if you follow the feed, or if one of your friends re-tweets an Earlybird special.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
