The last time Sony released a God of War game, it was a remastered version of God of War III for the PS4 back in 2015. So it should come as no surprise Sony is set to celebrate a brand new entry in its very successful franchise with a limited edition PS4 Pro.

God of War is set to launch on April 20 and is exclusive to the PS4. Developed by Sony's Santa Monica Studio, the game will be very different to previous entries with an over-the-shoulder free camera and battle axe as a weapon instead of the usual double-chained blades. It will also be a single-player only experience.

As this is a Sony game, it will take full advantage of the extra power offered by the PS4 Pro. If you don't own one, Sony is making a limited edition God of War-themed PS4 Pro available on launch day complete with a physical copy of the game.

As the video above shows, the customized case design is inspired by Kratos' axe and is complemented by a Leviathan Gray DualShock 4 controller complete with insignia and subtle God of War logo added to the touchpad. The physical copy of the game is welcome, but Sony is also throwing in additional digital content which hasn't been detailed yet.

Shannon Studstill, Head of Santa Monica Studio, was asked what the markings on the limited edition PS4 Pro mean, explaining, "The top surface is the Axe skill tree you'll use in-game to upgrade your axe, along with the runic gem slots on the handle that enable unique special attacks. The side panels are trimmed with a beautiful Norse design, and the runes each represent a realm in the game."

Opting to play the game on PS4 Pro gets you a dynamic 4K resolution and HDR (on compatible displays). However, playing using a Pro at 1080p also comes with the benefit of improved image quality thanks to supersampling.
