If you're a Comcast Xfinity subscriber living in one of 14 northeastern states, we've got some good news for you: Your Internet download speeds are set to increase without any price hike.

The states receiving the speed bump stretch from Maine down to Virginia and the District of Columbia, with the change happening at some point within the next month. As to how much faster your connection will be, that depends on which Xfinity tier you subscribe to.

Comcast is promising to bump the Performance Starter tier from 10 to 15Mbps, the Performance tier from 25 to 60Mbps, the Performance Pro tier from 100 to 150Mbps, and the Blast tier from 200 to 250Mbps. There will be no planned increases to the upload speeds at this time, but there will also be no increase in Xfinity pricing, either.

Kevin Casey, President of Comcast's Northeast Division, points out that the company has, "increased speeds 17 times in the last 17 years, and continue to invest to deliver a fast, innovative and reliable experience in and out of the home."

Once the upgrade is complete, Comcast says 80 percent of its subscribers in these states will enjoy 150Mbps download speeds. In order to take advantage of the increased speed, existing customer will need to reboot their modem. Hopefully Comcast sends out an email or notification when it's time to do that. If you are receiving a speed increase and don't have a modem good enough to cope, Comcast will be in touch to suggest a self-install upgrade (at no additional cost).

If you aren't currently a Comcast Xfinity customer, by signing up you will also benefit if located in one of these northeastern states. Prices range from $30 to around $100 per month for the fastest speeds, with bundles including TV and phone also available and deals potentially saving you quite a bit of cash.
