Set your alarm and get your credit card ready: Oculus will open pre-orders for its Rift headset at 11 a.m. Eastern on Jan. 6.

Every machine comes bundled with the free game Lucky's Tale by Playful; plus, the Oculus Team is throwing in a free copy of the sci-fi adventure EVE: Valkyrie.

"This is going to be an exciting week for VR," the company wrote in a blog post that also teased a Reddit AMA with Oculus founder Palmer Luckey on Wednesday at 9 p.m. Eastern.

Developers have been tinkering with Oculus Rift dev kits for the last three years. A consumer version is expected in the first quarter, but an exact launch date has not yet been announced, nor has a price. "We'll be sharing everything you need to know to order your Rift on Wednesday when pre-orders go live," the company said. It urged fans to "stay tuned for more updates this week," possibly at CES in Las Vegas.

Oculus last month began shipping early builds of the final Rift hardware to developers working on launch titles for the device. The company plans to dispatch the headsets to developers "every week" leading up to its launch.

One thing we do know, though, is that the Oculus Touch hardware accessories will not ship until the second half of the year—later than the initial first-quarter prediction. Pre-orders for the handheld controllers will begin a few months before Touch's official launch.

Meanwhile, Oculus is no longer the only VR shop in town: Other companies have jumped into the space, including Sony, Samsung, Google, LG, and HTC.
