Multitasking on Skype just got a lot easier for iOS users.

"When we're on our phones and tablets we're often doing several things at once," the Skype Team wrote in a blog post. "We switch in and out of the apps that help us get things done."

This week's update, though, eliminates that extra step; Skype version 6.6 makes it easier to set up calendar events, start calls, and check locations directly from an instant message.

Just look for the highlighted text—phone numbers, addresses, times, dates—and tap to start an action. A featured address, for example, will redirect you to Apple Maps, while a phone number will open the Skype dial pad to initiate a call. Similarly, tapping a highlighted date or time will open the calendar app.

"We'll automatically set up the event using the details from the chat to speed things up for you," Skype said.

You'll even find a Skype chat URL in the calendar notes, "which is perfect if you're setting up a call reminder," according to Skype. Just open the event and tap the link to return to your chat.

The Microsoft-owned service has also made it easier to return to an active audio or video call from your instant messages or contact list by tapping the active call banner. If you're in an instant message conversation, meanwhile, just look for the unread message counter at the top of the screen, and hit "back" to check new notices.
