Have you been paying too much for data? Sprint wants to cut your data charges in half, just in time for the holiday shopping season.

The carrier on Wednesday announced a new promotion that might entice you to ditch your current service provider — 50 percent off the price of most Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile plans. The offer is available Friday, Nov. 20 through Jan. 7, 2016. Those 50 percent plans are then valid until Jan. 8, 2018.

Broken down by carrier, T-Mobile, for instance, offers 10GB of data for $80 per month. Now, any T-Mobile customer who switches to Sprint can get unlimited talk and text with the same amount of data for $40 a month.

On AT&T, a family paying $100 for 15GB of data can now get that same amount for $50 when they switch to Sprint. On top of that, you'll save 50 percent on the access fee.

On Verizon, those paying $80 for 12GB of data will now pay just $40 for the same amount when they switch to Sprint, plus get half off the access fee.

The deal is also available for Cricket and MetroPCS customers.

On top of cutting your data charges in half, Sprint will pay any early termination fees you incur from your current carrier up to $650 per line via an American Express Reward Card. If you're not satisfied with Sprint's service, you can return your device within 28 days with no restrocking fee.

"We've made tremendous strides with our network because we know consumers want wireless service that provides consistent speed and reliability," Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said in a statement. "We are so confident that customers will have an amazing experience that we are encouraging them to give us a try with the biggest wireless offer in the history of our industry."

If you're already a Sprint customer, don't feel left out. The carrier is offering a free Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 7 tablet with one year of free service when you sign a two-year contract, while supplies last. That deal is valued at $360.

Sprint last year offered a similar promotion encouraging Verizon and AT&T customers to switch.

Not surprisingly, T-Mobile CEO John Legere had something to say about Sprint's promotion. In a series of 10 tweets, the exec highlighted several T-Mobile promotions that Sprint does not offer (Binge On, Music Freedom, Data Stash) and argued that T-Mobile has better LTE access.

Sprint's promotion comes with the launch of its LTE Plus network, which is available today in 77 major markets.

My Experience

I'm PCMag's managing editor for consumer electronics, overseeing an experienced team of analysts covering smart home, home entertainment, wearables, fitness and health tech, and various other product categories. I have been with PCMag for more than 10 years, and in that time have written more than 6,000 articles and reviews for the site. I previously served as an analyst focused on smart home and wearable devices, and before that I was a reporter covering consumer tech news. I'm also a yoga instructor, and have been actively teaching group and private classes for nearly a decade.

Prior to joining PCMag, I was a reporter for SC Magazine, focusing on hackers and computer security. I earned a BS in journalism from West Virginia University, and started my career writing for newspapers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

The Technology I Use

My little Florida beach bungalow is brimming with smart home tech. I have a smart speaker or display in every room, allowing me to control other connected devices by voice. The Nest Hub on my bedside table lets me set wake-up alarms, control my smart light bulbs, and set the temperature on my smart thermostat. I use the Amazon Echo Show 8 on my kitchen counter to browse recipes, reorder protein powder, check the weather, and watch the news while I do dishes.

Because I suffer from allergies, air purifiers are essential. My favorite model is the Dyson Purifier Cool TP07, which doubles as a fan and continuously sends indoor pollution data to its companion mobile app.

My pitbull Bradley sheds, so a good robot vacuum is a must. I currently use a premium Ecovacs Deebot that can both vacuum and mop, empty its own dustbin, and wash its own mop cloth.

For fitness, I like to mix up my routine with cycling, indoor rowing, running, and strength training in addition to yoga. I take classes on the Tonal 2 smart strength training machine, I row indoors on an Aviron machine, and track my beach runs with an Apple Watch while listening to music on my Apple AirPods Pro. On the weekends, I love riding e-bikes like the rugged, beach-friendly Aventon Aventure for fun and fitness.

My job involves a lot of virtual meetings, so a quality webcam, microphone, and ring light are important. I use the Jabra PanaCast 20 webcam, the Elgato Wave: 3 microphone, and a Yesker tripod ring light.

As for my preferred phone platform, I'm an iPhone person, but I've also extensively used Android for product testing.
