OnePlus today announced a partnership with Foxconn Technology to manufacture some of its devices in India.

"All our handsets are made in China and then shipped to India," CEO Pete Lau told reporters on Monday, according to Reuters. "So, making them locally will help reaching our Indian customers faster."

Local production will begin before the end of the year at a 30,000-square-foot Foxconn facility in Andhra Pradesh, India. With a peak capacity of up to 500,000 units per month, the factory will also generate more than 1,000 full-time jobs, ETTelecom reported.

"India being one of our biggest markets worldwide, we are committed to a long-term sustainable growth path," Lau said in a statement. "This move will strengthen our presence and help us step up momentum in India."

In June, OnePlus rival Xiaomi inked a similar deal with Foxconn to convert an old Pepsi building in Andhra Pradesh into a Xiaomi manufacturing facility.

The two companies appear to be on good terms, however. OnePlus India marketing chief Karan Sarin tweeted a photo of himself with OnePlus India General Manager Vikas Agarwal and Xiaomi global VP (and former Android exec) Hugo Barra.

The move comes about a month after OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei apologized for botching the launch of its smartphones. The company's first smartphone, the OnePlus One, was almost impossible to actually purchase (you needed to snag an invite or buy during a flash sale or on a Tuesday), so OnePlus "made rosy plans" for the OnePlus 2 rollout, but ran into supply issues again.

To help satisfy that demand, OnePlus today held one-hour open sales around the globe today; the U.S. sale has just been extended an extra hour, so try to snag one now (it appears the $389 64GB version is the only one left; the 16GB is sold out).
