Microsoft has not announced an official launch date for Windows 10, but its partner AMD might have let the cat out of the bag.
During a first-quarter earnings call, AMD CEO Lisa Su let slip that Redmond's next-gen OS is slated for an "end of July" launch.
"What we also are factoring in is, you know, with the Windows 10 launch at the end of July, we are watching sort of the impact of that on the back-to-school season," Su said, according to a transcript, "and expect that it might have a bit of delay to the normal back-to-school season inventory build-up."
No further mention was made of Windows 10 or its release date; the Q&A session continued with more financial questions from analysts.
Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
More details are expected during Microsoft's Build 2015 conference in San Francisco, which kicks off April 29.
The next version of Windows was revealed in September, and made the jump from Windows 8.1 directly to Windows 10. It is intended to work across all devices, including phones, tablets, 2-in-1s, laptops, and desktops.
Rolling out as a free upgrade for those currently running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1, it comes with Cortana on the desktop, the revamped Project Spartan Web browser, and Windows Holographic.
