If there was any doubt that the PlayStation 4 is selling like crazy, Sony just shut it down. Because the Japanese tech giant announced it as of March 1, it has sold more than 20.2 million PS4 consoles worldwide.
The PS4 managed to reach that 20 million sales milestone faster than any other PlayStation console, Sony said. The company last gave us an update on PS4 sales in January, when it hit 18.5 million units.
These new figures might make Microsoft a little nervous — especially since the PS4 remains the top-selling current-generation console, beating out Redmond's Xbox One. Last we heard, Microsoft had shipped nearly 10 million Xbox One units as of November.
"We are so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation fans worldwide, and we are truly humbled that gamers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play," Sony Computer Entertainment President and CEO Andrew House, said in a statement. "We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver unique and interactive entertainment experiences powered by the network and the PS4 system's deep social capabilities."
At this point, the PS4 is available in 123 countries and regions worldwide. Sony plans to further expand the system's games portfolio with highly anticipated titles like Batman: Arkham Knight, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Tearaway Unfolded, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.
Meanwhile, Sony this week also revealed the March PlayStation Plus lineup of free games, which includes Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee – New 'n' Tasty! and Valiant Hearts: The Great War.
