Twitter today confirmed that it is testing a "Buy Now" button with a "small percentage of U.S. users."

First spotted in July, a larger number of people on iOS and Android will begin seeing tweets with the option to buy products directly from their timeline, some of which are exclusive to Twitter.

Initial partners include Fancy, Gumroad, Musictoday, and Stripe, with more slated to join soon. Twitter's test also includes a handful of artists, brands, and charities peddling their products: Brad Paisley, Burberry, Demi Lovato, DonorsChoose, GLAAD, The Home Depot, Pharrell, (RED), Ryan Adams, 9/11 Day, and more.

"This is an early step in our building functionality into Twitter to make shopping from mobile devices convenient and easy, hopefully even fun," Twitter's group product manager Tarun Jain wrote in a blog post.

In just a few taps, you can make a purchase and move on with your day: Click the "Buy" button (where available) to find additional product details—pricing, sizing, description—and follow the prompt to enter shipping and payment information.

Once confirmed, order information is sent to the merchant for delivery, and you can return to your Twitter feed.

Jain promised that credit cards will be processed securely and are not shared with sellers unless given permission by the user. Payment and shipping information is also encrypted and safely stored after your first transaction, and you can remove those details at any time.

Earlier this summer, Twitter acquired advertising firm TapCommerce, which specializes in retargeting. The move, Twitter said at the time, will allow it to offer app marketers more real-time capabilities, and mobile users "better and more relevant ads."
