Good news for those of you anxiously awaiting Apple's Sept. 9 iPhone event. The company said today that it will provide a livestream of its presentation.

"Live video from our special event will be right here. And so will a whole lot more," Apple said on its website, alongside a countdown.

The only catch is that you appear to need an Apple device in order to tune in. Specifically, the live stream will require Safari 5.1.10 or later on OS X v10.6.8 or later or Safari on iOS 6.0 or later.

If you want to tune in via Apple TV, you'll need a second- or third-generation device with software 5.0.2 or later.

The iPhone event kicks off at 10 a.m. PT from Cupertino. There, Apple is expected to launch two new iPhones - a 4.7-inch model and a 5.5-inch phablet - as well as a wearable that might be the long-rumored iWatch. We'll also probably get details on the launch dates for iOS 8 and Mac OS X Yosemite.

In recent years, Apple has only livestreamed a handful of its press events, including the Oct. 2013 iPad event, the 2012 iPad mini event, as well as the 2010 "Back to the Mac" event. WWDC keynotes are also usually streamed on the Web.

PCMag will be in Cupertino on Tuesday, so stay tuned for all the details.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
