Reports of Samsung's upcoming Google Glass rival have resurfaced.

Citing an unnamed Samsung associate, Business Korea said the tech giant will show off what it called "Gear Glass" during September's IFA trade show in Berlin.

The news first broke in late January, when The Korea Times also suggested that Samsung may unveil its own futuristic spectacles during the Sept. 5-10 event in Germany.

Last fall, Samsung registered a design patent for smart glasses technology in Korea; much like its Gear smartwatches, the headset would link to a smartphone or other mobile device to display alerts and information in the user's field of view.

But according to Business Korea, the company also obtained a similar patent from the American Patent Law Association, suggesting Samsung could be serious about launching a new globally adaptable wearable.

That device, the blog said, will run Tizen, just like Samsung's newest Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches.

Samsung did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for comment.

The smart glasses market is heating up: At this year's Consumer Electronics Show, Epson showed off its updated Moverio specs, which retail for $700—less than half the price of Google Glass.

Still, if you insist on owning a pair of the $1,500 glasses, you're in luck: Google just reopened sales for Glass, now available to anyone in the U.S. with some extra cash. The device comes in a range of colors, with the option to attach it to a pair of titanium frames or sunglasses.
