Instagram today unveiled a Web-based version of the photo-sharing site's newsfeed, available now at Instagram.com.

Those who sign in on the Web will see now their Instagram feeds just as they might on their mobile devices. In November, Instagram started rolling out Web-based profiles, allowing people to view their pics at instagram.com/[username], but this incorporates a user's entire newsfeed.

Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom said in a blog post that the company has been primarily focused on mobile since its Oct. 2010 launch. The point of Instagram, after all, "is about seeing and taking photos on-the-go."

However, in the months since being acquired by Facebook, Instagram has seen huge growth; it now has 90 million monthly active users. "To make Instagram even more accessible to our growing community ... you can now browse your Instagram feed on the web – just like you do on your mobile device," Systrom wrote.

The Web-based Instagram lets users browse followers' photos, like or comment on pics, and more. "Simply put, we've brought a simple, powerful, and beautiful Instagram browsing experience to the Web," Systrom wrote.

At this point, however, there is no option to upload from the Web since "Instagram is about producing photos on the go, in the real world, in realtime," Systrom stressed.

Late last month, Pinterest showed off a new look that it will be testing out with a few select users. The changes to Pinterest.com are subtle but intended to make it easier to navigate the site and provide users with bigger and more engaging pins.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
