LAS Vegas –Marvell is giving CES attendees a look at its latest portfolio of wireless solutions, including Wi-Fi Display which is supported across Marvell's entire line of Avastar solutions.
Wi-Fi Display is a standards-based mechanism for peer-to-peer, high-definition (HD) video and audio streaming between wireless devices and high-definition displays. With it, consumers can mirror the display from a mobile device onto a larger screen in real-time; moving and viewing content among various devices, anytime, anywhere.
"Consumers today expect an always-on, always-connected experience, and it is critical that Wi-Fi solutions serve as a reliable link to enable advanced use cases for consumers," said Bart Giordano, director of marketing for wireless at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. "Marvell's Wi-Fi Display solutions will allow end-users to enjoy reliable and interoperable video and audio streaming of user-generated and cloud-sourced content between their mobile computing devices and their digital TVs, projectors, set-top boxes, and Blu-ray players. Whether it is real-time gaming from a smartphone to a high definition display, or projecting content stored on a tablet onto a larger screen, Marvell's Wi-Fi Display solutions will enable reliable streaming of rich, high-definition content that consumers demand."
Marvell's family of Avastar wireless products is integral to the company's connectivity solutions. Avastar chips serve as the wireless linchpin for Marvell's fully-integrated SoC platforms, providing the most robust Wi-Fi connectivity in the industry for mobile devices, gaming consoles, automobiles, smart appliances, printers, routers, televisions, set-top boxes and Blu-ray players.
The Avastar wireless portfolio includes the Avastar 88W8764 4x4 access point with Marvell's transmit beamforming (Tx BF) technology, the Avastar 88W8782 11n 1x1, which connects printers and other consumer electronic devices to Wi-Fi networks. Recently, the latest wireless SoC in the Avastar line–the 88W8797, the first high-performance multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Wi-Fi + Bluetooth + FM combination radio with advanced power management designed specifically for next-generation handheld products–was recognized by CES in the 2011 Innovation Awards and named one of EDN's Hot 100 Products of 2011.
In addition, Marvell announced the 88MZ1000 ZigBee SoC microcontroller which provides full integration for home automation and LED lighting control applications. The SoC's ZigBee gateway acts as an adaptor that facilitates control of both ZigBee and Wi-Fi enabled smart devices using a standard IP network infrastructure.
Marvell will be participating in the sponsored demonstration of Wi-Fi Display at CES in the Wi-Fi Alliance booth, No. MP25445, located in South Hall 2 on the lower level, and also will be demonstrating its Wi-Fi Display solutions at CES in the Marvell booth, No. 30542, located in South Hall 3 on the upper level.
