Black Friday isn't until Nov. 25 but that hasn't stopped popular retailers from offering up early deals.

Over at Amazon.com, the company has a "Countdown to Black Friday" event going on, with lightning deals and discounts on electronics, games, and more.

The lightning deals offer up a particular product for a set amount of time, usually a few hours. There's a limited number available, but the discounts are pretty steep. An HP Officejet Pro 8500A wireless all-in-one printer, for example, is now on offer for $199, down from $499.99; there's about an hour left to nab the deal.

In the countdown deals section, a 15.6-inch Asus A53E-XA2 is selling for $529.99, down from $679.99. A 15.6-inch Dell Inspiron 15RN is also $100 off at $499.99.

In mobile, a Motorola Triumph from Virgin Mobile is getting a $50 discount to $259.04. Amazon is also offering up a $100 Amazon.com gift card with any purchase of a hotspot-enabled smartphone or a $50 gift card if you buy a standalone hotspot device. Eligible smartphones include the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G, Motorola Droid Bionic, Motorola Photon 4G, and the Motorola Droid RAZR, among others.

There are a variety of camera options, including the Canon PowerShot SD4500IS 10-megapixel point and shoot for $179.95, down from $399. A Panasonic DMC-ZS9 14.1-megapixel digital camera with 16x optical zoom is also $193.95, down from $249.99.

On the TV front, a 47-inch LG Infinia HDTV is $850, down from $1,299.99. A 42-inch version is $679.98, down from $1,099.99.

Amazon also has a daily email alert with warnings about pre-Black Friday deals.

For more, check out the Black Friday deals on tap from Gamestop, Kmart, Sears, Target, and Toys'R'Us as well as Best Buy, Walmart and Costco, among others.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
