Want the first, and possibly last, MeeGo smartphone Nokia will ever make? Start saving.

Nokia on Tuesday announced it has shipped the N9 with a retail pricetag of $560 for the 16GB version and $650 for the 64GB model.

The Nokia N9 features a 3.9-inch AMOLED screen made from scratch-resistant curved glass, an 8-megapixel autofocus camera and HD-quality video capture, a near-field communication (NFC) chip, and no buttons. For more, see our hands-on with the Nokia N9 and slideshow below.

One thing we didn't see when we did our hands-on in June is that in some countries the device comes preloaded with Spotify, according to its Swedish press release.

It isn't clear which countries will receive the N9, or when, but Nokia gave consumers from only 24 countries the option to be informed once it becomes available. The list does not include the U.S., U.K., Japan, or India.

Nokia announced the N9 in June, one day before CEO Stephen Elop stole its thunder somewhat by teasing the first Nokia Windows Mobile device, codenamed "Sea Ray." Built on MeeGo, an Maemo/Moblin hybrid operating system launched by Intel and Nokia in February 2010, the platform is generally deemed a commercial failure and Elop has reportedly said he plans to kill off MeeGo even if the N9 is popular. Ever since strategically adopting Microsoft's Windows Phone OS in February, Nokia has been devoting most of its attention to making Windows Phone devices.

Some speculate that MeeGo will go up for sale and get snapped up by either Samsung or HTC. Or perhaps we'll see it integrated in tablets as promised by four small OS vendors back in May.
