Google today confirmed that long-time employee and former senior vice president of ads and commerce Susan Wojcicki will take the reins at YouTube.

To make way, current YouTube head Salar Kamangar will be shifted into a different, unspecified role within the search giant.

"Salar and the whole YouTube team have built something amazing," Google CEO Larry Page said in a statement. "Like Salar, Susan has a healthy disregard for the impossible and is excited about improving YouTube in ways that people will love."

Wojcicki confirmed the news herself, tweeting a welcome message this afternoon.

The former ad executive has been part of Team Google from the start, recently returning with co-founders Page and Sergey Brin to the garage at 232 Santa Margarita Ave. in Menlo Park, which she rented to the men 15 years ago as they built what has become a star search engine and mobile software company.

Considered the most important woman at Google, Wojcicki was responsible for almost 90 percent of the search giant's $50 billion revenue in 2012, according to Forbes. Now in charge of a video-sharing division that reportedly earned $5.6 billion in ad revenue, she is certain to push for more commerce opportunities to help boost those numbers.

Wojcicki became Google's 16th hire, and their first marketing manager. She is also the sister of Brin's estranged wife, 23andMe co-founder Anne Wojcicki.
