If you thought the game footage seen at yesterday's Nintendo press conference at E3 looked better than anything you ever saw from Nintendo, you were right. In fact, you're still right: Some of the clips were actually from Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has admitted, though he insisted games on Nintendo's next-generation console, the Wii U, would be comparable.
"We're talking a year away from when the system's going to launch," Fils-Aime told GameTrailers.com. "The system's going to be 1080p. You're going to see games that take full advantage of a system that has the latest technology and can push out some incredible graphics."
The games shown at Nintendo's E3 event included such graphics-heavy titles as Assassin's Creed 2, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online, and Madden footbal (Fils-Aime cops to the lifted footage at 4:33 in the video below). While the footage of those games was taken from other platforms, Fils-Aime clearly believes there was no harm in showing it since the "experience" on the Wii U, planned for a 2012 release, will be similar.
Nintendo used yesterday's event to unveil the Wii U, the gaming giant's next-generation home console. Besides boasting beefed-up specs, the Wii U will include a tablet-like controller with a touch screen. The demo showed gamers using the tablet as both an accessory to gaming on a TV and a standalone device. No price or release date has been set.
