Twitter this week added support for Russian and Turkish, meaning you can now tweet in nine different languages.

At the beginning of this year, Twitter added Korean to its list of languages, and it announced the new addition of Russian and Turkish in a Tuesday blog post.

Users can access both of the new languages on twitter.com and mobile.twitter.com. But as of now, they are only supported on the Android Twitter app, so Russian and Turkish iPhone users will have to wait a bit longer.

Users can also send out 140-character messages in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.

In its blog announcement, Twitter encouraged uses to switch their language to Russian and Turkish, so they can browse their interests in the recently added interest-based search option, which will serve up suggested Russian and Turkish accounts to follow. Twitter made a few interesting recommendations, including Russian figure skater Evgeny Plushenko and Mehmet Ali Birand, a Turkish news anchor.

Twitter launched in 2006 and now has over 200 million users registered worldwide. To help these members connect, it has been expanding its user's access to current news and topics from around the world. Earlier this month, Twitter added 70 more cities to its Trends section for a total of more than 100 locations.

In an attempt to make it easier for users to find new and relevant accounts to follow, Twitter has written several blog posts focused on connecting users to the current topics, including ways to follow NASA's space explorations and news and various sports events, such as the NBA playoffs and live Stanley Cup coverage.
