President Obama will host a Facebook Town Hall on April 20, which will be streamed live on the social-networking site and the White House Web site.

The event, which will kick off at 4:45pm Eastern time, will broadcast from Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg will also be in attendance.

"President Obama will connect with Americans across the country to discuss the tough choices we must all make in order to put our economy on a more responsible fiscal path, while still investing in areas like innovation that will help our economy grow and make America more competitive," according to the announcement.

Virtual attendees are invited to ask Obama questions via an online form on the White House Web site, or by posting them on the event's Facebook page.

The event will stream at WhiteHouse.gov/live and facebook.com/WhiteHouse.

As the New York Times notes, "It wasn't long ago that Google was the can't miss destination for politicos of all stripes in Silicon Valley. Now Google gets Lady Gaga, while Facebook gets Mr. Obama." But to be fair, Facebook did recently play host to pop star Katy Perry.

President Obama visited Google in November 2007 while on the campaign trail, and his opponent John McCain stopped by earlier that year.

Earlier this week, Obama announced that he will run for re-election in 2012, and encouraged supporters to signal that they're "in" via Facebook.

On Thursday, meanwhile, Facebook will host a briefing with "a behind-the-scenes look at the latest technology powering Facebook," according to an invitation sent to reporters.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
