The drama surrounding the Time Warner Cable iPad app continued Friday, with the cable channel adding 16 national and three local channels to its tablet lineup one day after it was forced to pull content from Fox, Viacom, and Discovery Communications.

New channels include A&E, Bravo, AMC, CNN, Disney, HGTV, USA, We, ESPNnews, and more.

"This is an incredibly diverse array of programming, including sports, news and public affairs networks," Jeff Simmermon, Time Warner's director of digital communications, wrote in a blog post. "Also included are our local news channels in each market where they're available. Customers will receive all of the available networks that are included in the cable package to which they subscribe."

A complete list of the channels coming to the app are available on Time Warner's blog.

Time Warner unveiled its iPad app on March 15. It lets Time Warner customers stream live TV to their Apple tablet over a Time Warner Internet connection, so they can watch cable content in multiple rooms. Content providers like Fox, as well as Discovery and Viacom, however, soon objected to the app because they said it constituted another distribution channel and Time Warner, therefore, should hand over more cash for the rights to stream those TV shows.

On Thursday, Time Warner pulled shows from Viacom, Discovery, and Fox from its iPad app. "Instead of rowing down the river of history and into the future, these programmers have chosen to sit on the bank and kick rocks," TWC's Simmermon said of their decision.

Discovery, Fox, and Viacom all declined to comment.

When the app came out, Scripps Interactive said it had "not granted iPad video streaming rights to any distributor and is actively addressing any misunderstandings on this issue." But Scripps distributes HGTV and Food Network, which were added to the iPad app today. A Scripps spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
