Twitter founder Jack Dorsey may return to Twitter as a chief product officer, according to a report.

Business Insider cited a single source as saying that Dorsey, who co-founded Twitter with Ev Williams and Biz Stone, and served as chief executive until 2008. At that time, Williams assumed the CEO role while Dorsey served as chairman.

This new position is said to be closer to a day-to-day job supervising product development at Twitter," BI reported. "It's possible, however, that Dorsey will end up merely expanding his current consulting role."

Dorsey and Twitter representatives did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

Twitter recently celebrated its fifth birthday, with Dorsey summarizing the company's history in a series of 140-character tweets. Twitter's cofounders then appeared on Conan O'Brien's show, where they were mocked, and thanked, by the host for their efforts.

A day after pop star Lady Gaga stopped by Google to answer questions from her fans, she made an appearance at Twitter, to, among other things, examine code.
