After months of rumors and speculation, the Verizon iPhone 4 is finally here. Though some Verizon customers already have the device in hand, those who didn't nab one during the pre-sale can now line up at one of several retail stores to purchase the coveted smartphone.

Apple and Verizon Wireless stores opened their doors at 7am this morning for those eager to get their hands on Apple device. It will also be sold at Best Buy and 600 Walmart in-store wireless areas.

The Verizon iPhone 4 retails for $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model with a two-year contract.

Buyers can also order the phone online. Verizon started its pre-sale at 3am on February 3, and sold out by 8:10pm. Verizon and Apple opened online ordering again yesterday, and that continues today.

"The phone that changed everything is now at Verizon," according to a note on the Verizon Web site.

Apple is being a bit more diplomatic, touting both of its U.S. carriers. "iPhone 4. Now on AT&T and Verizon. Two is better than one," says the Apple homepage.

For its part, AT&T's latest ad touches on the fact that the Verizon iPhone does not let you surf and talk at the same time. When the Verizon iPhone was announced, AT&T attacked what it considered to be the limitations of Verizon's CDMA network.

That doesn't appear to have deterred some users. Verizon said last week that its pre-sale event was the "most successful first day sales in the history of the company."

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
