Jon Stewart Verizon iPhone

Last night on Comedy Central's The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart declared an end to the "national nightmare" of AT&T's iPhone tyranny, following Tuesday's Verizon Wireless iPhone announcement.

As an early member of the AT&T iPhone community, Stewart joked about his suffering under AT&T's "regime:"

"For the past three or four years, those of us in the iPhone community have sacrificed one thing for the ability to carry around every photograph we've ever taken, or song we've ever listened to, or compass...we've sacrificed the ability to make phone calls."

Using his typical deadpan expression, Stewart said he was forced to carry two phones: AT&T's Apple iPhone and "a second phone I would use as a phone," pulling out a pink toy phone.

Apparently Verizon's announcement on Tuesday will put an end to all that: "Well, our long national nightmare may soon be over," he says.

After showing a clip of Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam announcing the iPhone tie-up, Stewart did his best impression of Mel Gibson's character of William Wallace in 'Braveheart': "FREEDOM!!! FREEDOM!!"

Daily Show correspondent John Oliver added a video report, likening the Verizon announcement to the toppling of the Saddam Hussein statue.
