A Korean newspaper is reporting that LG will exhibit an 8.9-inch tablet at CES this week. The most interesting detail is that it will be powered by Honeycomb, the upcoming version of Android tailored specifically for tablets.

LG will "unveil its first tablet computer, which will be powered by 'Honeycomb,' a version of the Android mobile operating system designed for tablets and 'netbooks,' or mini laptops, in Las Vegas, according to industry sources," the Korea Times reports.

In November Engadget reported that LG's first tablet will pack a dual-core Tegra 2 chip.

The path for LG's debut into the slate world has been rocky. In June, LG showcased a prototype Android tablet, the UX10, at a Taiwan trade show. The slate sported a 10-inch display and an Atom Z350 processor.

Then in October, LG reportedly ditched plans to create an Android 2.2 slate after a Google official said the operating system wasn't optimized for tablets.

The Honeycomb tablet won't be the only new product on offer from LG, the Korea Times article went on to say. LG is said to also be planning the U.S. debut of the Optimus 2X, the world's first dual-core phone, at CES.
