Six years after cult puzzle game Bejweled 2 spawned addicts everywhere, game maker PopCap Games is releasing the first "true" sequel on December 7 for PCs and Macs.

Jeff Green, a former EA.com editor-turned editorial and social media director at PopCap, made the announcement in PopCap's first blog entry. "I am honored, on this great day of days, to be among the first people ever in the history of the planet to say to you: "WOW, POPCAP IS MAKING BEJEWELED 3! YAY!"

Bejeweled 3 will be available for download at PopCap's Web site. Apart from superficial enhancements like HD graphics, richer customization and high-fidelity audio, the sequel adds four "secret" modes to unlock and 65 badges to earn.
