iPhoto (for iPad) Review

The home screen switches among attractive views showing Albums, Photos, Events, and Journals.

The Photos tab only shows photos taken on the iPad; for Photo Stream, you have to switch to the Albums tab. Note that videos appear here too.

After tapping the Edit button

The artist's palette icon offers the five adjusters shown along the bottom--saturation, blue skies, greenery, skin tones, and white balance. Just swipe up or down to increase or decrease each adjustment. Here it's asking for skin colors, but if you place your finger on sky blue, the option changes to darken or brighten the intensity of the sky.

iPhoto for iPad offers local edit brushes for repairing blemishes, red eye, saturation, desaturation, lightening, darkening, sharpening, and softening.

A very versatile tool making clever use of the iPad's input capabilities, Crop and Straighten can get your image into proportion and alignment.

You can choose standard white balance settings like sun, clouds, or flash, but you can also set a custom white balance based on a person's skin in the photo or a neutral tone in the photo.

The swatch interface is incredibly clever, and some of the effects are striking, but there's not as much choice and control as you get in Snapseed.

This effect has no adjustment options, but produces stunning results.

Unlike the basic iOS Photos app, you can share to Facebook from iPhoto, as well as building an appealing "Journal."

Journals give you a way to create something enjoyable from a photo event like a vacation. You can add notes, maps, and even a weather tile.
