A March software update will officially bring Android Auto to certain 2016 Chevys.

The rollout will arrive first for 2016 models with 8-inch MyLink systems. The 7-inch version will also get Android Auto, but Chevy did not specify a rollout timetable.

"Thanks to the hard work and determination of our engineering team, Chevrolet consumers who use Android phones will not have to compromise when choosing which MyLink system meets their needs," Alan Batey, president of GM North America and Global Chevrolet, said in a statement. "We are working with our dealers to make the software update as quick and easy as possible to minimize any inconvenience to our owners."

Chevy in May announced that it would support Android Auto and Apple's CarPlay. With either system, phone owners can plug their device into the car via USB to access services like maps, messaging, and music on the in-car display.

A "Projection" icon changes to indicate that a smartphone is connected. Android Auto requires phones with Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher, while CarPlay needs an iPhone 5 or later. Compatible apps must be downloaded before use.

Google's in-vehicle feature debuted in March, and supports Google Now for predictive information like traffic on your commute route, estimated driving times, weather, upcoming appointments, and more.

Hyundai was the first to announce plans to offer Android Auto, starting with the 2015 Sonata. Other models will also be compatible in the future.

Chevrolet, meanwhile, was an early adopter of Apple's Siri Eyes Free, and the first brand to offer OnStar 4G LTE connectivity in the U.S. and Canada.
