Using the typical process called bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), it measures 14 metrics, including body fat percentage, bone mass, heart rate, muscle mass, subcutaneous fat, and more. The scale has a rechargeable battery and built-in Wi-Fi, perks generally found on more expensive models. Its companion app does an excellent job of quickly contextualizing every measured metric with the option to dive in deep to discover what they mean and how you can improve your numbers.

Best Budget-Friendly ScaleWyze Scale X
Pros & Cons
Why We Picked It
The Wyze Scale X measures 13 body composition and health metrics, including your body fat percentage, body mass index (BMI), metabolic age, protein level, and weight, and makes it easy to track them via an intuitive app. It also offers a few useful extras, such as modes to weigh babies, pets, and luggage, as well as a safe mode for pregnant women and those with implanted medical devices. The Wyze Scale X supports app syncing for up to eight unique users and connects with popular third-party apps like Apple Health and Google Fit. Most importantly, its measurements are consistent and accurate enough to properly reflect your progress as you strive to reach your fitness goals. While most of these features are pretty standard for smart scales, the Wyze Scale X nails the basics for much less than the competition.
Who It's For
Value shoppers: With a very affordable price, reasonably accurate metrics, and an excellent companion app, the Wyze Scale X is a steal. It doesn't have Wi-Fi, a rechargeable battery, or the ability to measure subcutaneous fat, but it can save readings until your phone is in Bluetooth range, lasts 22 months before needing a battery replacement, and provides a comprehensive view of your body composition.
Parents (of babies or pets): The Wyze Scale X makes it easy to weigh babies, pets, and even luggage. Just step on yourself, then again, while holding your child or fur baby. Better yet, the Scale X can track the weight of your loved one over time, so you can keep tabs on whether you need to put your pet on a diet.

Best Affordable Wi-Fi ScaleArboleaf Smart Fitness Scale
Pros & Cons
Why We Picked It
Unlike most other competitors in this price range, the Arboleaf Smart Fitness Scale connects with both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, not just the former. Its Wi-Fi support adds a notable level of convenience, enabling the scale to send your measurements to its companion app even if your phone is outside of the limited Bluetooth range. Plus, it measures an impressive 14 metrics, including BMI, body fat percentage, body water percentage, muscle mass, protein level, and, of course, weight. It features an attractive design, supports up to eight different users, and syncs directly with many fitness apps, including Apple Health, Google Fit, and Fitbit. We also like that the Arboleaf app clearly shows where each of your measurements lies relative to a healthy range.
Who It's For
Bargain hunters: The Arboleaf Smart Fitness Scale is often available at a steep discount, making it one of the most affordable smart scales. Wi-Fi compatibility is a particularly nice get for its price, but keep in mind that it lacks a safe “weight only” mode for pregnant women and people with pacemakers.

Best Alternative to a DEXA ScanRenpho MorphoScan Nova Body Composition Scale
Pros & Cons
Why We Picked It
Equipped with electrodes and a display on the handlebar, the Renpho MorphoScan Nova Body Composition Scale measures more metrics than most other smart scales on this list and makes it easy to check your stats at a glance during your morning weigh-in. The handle improves the accuracy of body composition readings and separately measures the amounts of fat and muscle in your arms, legs, and torso. The display on the handle is easy to read and informative, and the same is true for the scale's companion app.

Best AccuracyHumeHealth Body Pod
Pros & Cons
Why We Picked It
HumeHealth's smart scale uses BIA to calculate body composition like the rest of the models on this list, but also features a handheld scanner bar like the Renpho MorphoScan. The handle both increases its accuracy and allows it to calculate the amounts of fat and muscle in your arms, legs, and torso, similar to a professional dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan.
Who It's For
Bodybuilders: If you're a data-driven athlete looking to track your progress toward a specific body composition goal, like gaining muscle mass in your arms or legs or toning your midsection, the HumeHealth Body Pod could be well worth the premium, as it proved highly accurate in testing.
People looking for a DEXA scan: Hume claims its Body Breakdown results sit within 3% of a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan, so while the Body Pod is expensive, it can save you money versus going to the doctor for DEXA medical scans. According to WebMD, the average cost of a single DEXA scan paid out of pocket is approximately $160 to $175; however, other sites estimate the average closer to $300 per scan.

Buying Guide: The Best Smart Scales for 2026
Do Smart Scales Work With Fitness Trackers?
Unsurprisingly, the best smart bathroom scales are compatible with the best fitness trackers. When you pair a Wi-Fi- or Bluetooth-connected scale with a fitness tracker, you typically use just one app to see data from both devices. Add a heart rate monitor or an at-home blood pressure cuff, and you have even more information at your fingertips without needing a spreadsheet or notepad.
Maybe you don't want to track your weight over time, but chances are your doctors and healthcare team do. Or maybe it's not you, but someone in your family who needs to keep an eye on their weight. Smart scales are smart enough to distinguish between multiple users and can track each user's weight separately and privately. Sharing data among family members and doctors is also an option.
Smart bathroom scales automatically log your weight every time you step on them. Many of the best scales also measure body fat, while others track bone density and water percentage. Some can even read your heart rate through your feet.
What Do Smart Scales Track?
Although many people want to track their weight and the number of steps they take each day to better understand their health, some individuals are seeking more than that. Athletes and individuals who train regularly likely want a scale that offers great features, a companion app, and tools to support them on their journey.
We note in our reviews which fitness and health tracking apps each of these scales supports. Some work with apps that calculate your training intensity and chart your VO2 max, lactic acid threshold, and more. But if all this talk of VO2Max makes your head spin, you might prefer a smart scale with a simpler user experience.
Should You Get a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Scale?
Smart scales typically use either Bluetooth or a combination of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi scales generally cost more because they require more components to work. They're also much more convenient.
To track your daily weigh-ins from a Bluetooth scale to the app, you need a Bluetooth device nearby. If you leave your companion smartphone, fitness tracker, or running watch in the other room, you're out of luck until it's within Bluetooth range. (Some scales can save a recorded weight until the next sync, but the cheaper ones do not.) A Wi-Fi-enabled scale doesn't have this problem. It syncs your data as long as it has a signal from your Wi-Fi router. In our testing experience, Wi-Fi syncing is also more reliable, whereas Bluetooth syncing occasionally fails.
How Does Pregnancy Mode Work on Smart Scales?
Women who are pregnant or who might become pregnant have unique needs when it comes to tracking their weight. Many pregnant women may not want BIA measurements (which measure body fat, bone density, and water percentage) because the devices use mild electrical impulses to measure these values. People who have a health device implant, such as a pacemaker, should also likely avoid smart scales that use BIA scanning.
Some, but not all, scales that support BIA measurements offer the option to disable BIA measurements. If available, a pregnancy/weight-only mode typically disables the BIA function, allowing the scale to measure only your weight.
